Victorian Style

Victorian style

The following range contains items of jewellery that have been inspired by the ornate carving that was such a large feature of the Victorian work. Whitby had many highly skilled carvers in the 19thC such as Greenbury, Speedy, and Lythe and it is the delicate cut and facet work that they introduced that we try to incorporate in the various styles. Amongst the finest work are the ear drops. We feature the traditional ring and shackle assembly on many of these ornately carved items in order that we may produce an authentic reproduction of Victorian elegance. As with all our work we are happy to discuss any specific requirements regarding size etc and will quote accordingly. Please contact us to discuss other options. If there are any items that you are interested in just click the order button. You will be given an opportunity to delete and refine your selection later at the checkout.

Lockets

One of the most popular items of jewellery in Victorian times was the locket. Here we have three designs based on a 25x18mm oval and 20mm round locket thus introducing a part of the Victorian style to a piece of jewellery that is of a more contemporary size. All pieces come complete with a silver chain and are presented in a smart black leatherette box.

Ornate ring and shackle drops

All the following drops are inspired by the Victorian carvers of Whitby who established a fashion genre in jewellery that lasted for some seventy years. Each is a one off but through out the year I will be adding to the range.

Carved drops

These drops feature cut and facet work taken from actual Victorian designs in my own collection and are genuine 19thC patterns. They can be carved in a variety of sizes from 25mm to 40mm approximately. The following prices are for the larger versions but I am happy to quote for smaller sizes. The findings can be fitted in gold or silver. These styles were extremely popular in Victorian times and still find a place in contemporary jewellery collections.

VPD001 Ornate leaf and rose (VPD001)

The base has a stylized rose carving followed by an intricate cut and facet pattern on the bottom third. This is followed by a swirl leaf pattern with a straight cut last third. There are many facets that display the Jet to the maximum. The over all length is 35mm.

£150.00

[ADD]
VPD002 Large ornately carved drops (VPD002)

The bottom and top thirds feature a swirled leaf pattern, in the centre is an intricate four leaf pattern brought into high relief by two adjacent turned grooves. The style is a fine example of the lead wheel cutting (see workshop page) done by the 19thC craftsmen and although I now use smaller diamond wheels it is still a beautiful but challenging design. The over all length is 45mm but can be carved in slightly smaller sizes.

£175.00

VPD003 Turned and carved drops (VPD003)

This design is my personal favourite. It is a complex mix of turned and polished grooves that compliment traditional 'pineapple'work on the the top section and domed centre section. The design is completed with a carved and turned finial at the base. These drops are 50mm in length but I am working on smaller drops in this style.

£250.00

VPD004 Carved and jointed drops (VPD004)

This design has a 25-30mm pointed drop with a carved centre that contrasts well with the highly polished top and bottom sections. The drop is attached to an 8mm plain round stud which introduces a little more movement. The overall look is much smaller but but still has Victorian style.
